An Emotional Day

Good Evening All,

Well, today was a very very emotional day at work. It was the last day at work for me and many of my co-workers. We knew that this day was coming, and I think that pretty much every one is looking forward to the new opportunities in our futures, but it was difficult none the less. It was hard to say "goodbye" to people that I have been working with for the last 8 years (3 as agency staff, and 5 as a permanent employee) - so we tended to say "see you later" instead. I know that I will still see many of the co-workers that I am proud to call friends, but it will be weird to not see them everyday. I can say that I do not envy the co-workers who are still employed - it will be very different with the number of people that are no longer going to be at work.

Today's card is being dedicated to Kim Savard. Kim is the one who first invited me to a Stampin' Up! workshop and got me started on card making (which was about 3 years ago).

I used the "Just Believe" stamp set to create this card. It is a little hard to see - but one of the layer of white card stock is embossed using the Finial Press embossing folder and the Big Shot.

Recipe for this card is as follows:

Stamps - Just Believe, Swirls & Curls Verses
Card Stock - Whisper White, Marina Mist
Ink - Old Olive, Marina Mist
Accessories - Marina Mist 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Pearls, Stampin' Dimensionals

I hope that you like the card. Have a great evening.

An Aviary Vase

Good Morning,

I have another card to show you today. I promise to take a picture of the Butterflies in Blue quilt and post it soon - I promise.

Now for today's card...I made this card using the Aviary stamp set. I like being able to use a stamp set for more than just the obvious. For today's card i used one of the bird cage images to create a vase for some flowers. For the patterned paper directly behind the vase I used one of the stamps from "Circle Circus" and stamped around the square. I also used the leaves from "Just Believe" because I didn't have any other stamp set that had a small enough flower.

I had intended on showcasing this card at the entrepreneur fair, but sold it before the fair (and I never had time to make another one) - good thing that I took a picture before it was gone.

Recipe for this card:

Stamp Sets - Aviary, Circle Circus, Just Believe
Card Stock - Whisper White, Crumb Cake
DSP - Brights Paper Stack (Tempting Turquoise used)
Ink - Chocolate Chip, Tempting Turquoise
Accessories - 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Rhinestones, Brights Button

Hope that you like the card. :)

Have a great day!

Fabulous Florets & 2011-2013 In Colours

Good evening,

I have a couple more samples from the entrepreneur fair to share with you. I used the stamp set "Fabulous Florets" and the new 2011-2013 In Colours and made very simple cards (that would be great for a Thank You card, or a Birthday Card for example). For each card, I used a Crumb Cake card base, the leaves stamped in Lucky Limeaide and changed the colour of the flower for each card. Each card also has 3 small pearls in the centre of each flower and some hemp twine tied in a bow beneath the flower.

I used 3 of these cards as Thank You cards (which I stamped on the inside) - and gave them (along with a little wee gift) to the Right Management staff today.  We have been fortunate to have the Right Management staff on site at work to help us with the transition of losing our jobs and the process of finding new ones.

Here are some pictures of the cards....

Card #1 - Calypso Coral

Card #2 - Pool Party

Card #3 - Wisteria Wonder

 Card #4 - Island Indigo

I am really liking the new In Colours that Stampin' Up! came up with - especially Calypso Coral and Island Indigo (have I mentioned that before - probably).

Recipe:

Card stock - Whisper White (scraps for flower and leaves), Crumb Cake
Ink - 2011-2013 In Colours (Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeaide, Island Indigo, Pool Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder)
Stamp - Fabulous Florets
Accessories - Hemp Twine, Pearls

Thanks for stopping by & I hope that you like the cards.

Have a great night!

Just a quick post...for now

Good evening all,

I have a quick post for now, but will be back a bit later tonight. I just wanted to update you on the progress of the "Butterflies in Blue" quilt. I am very happy to report that this quilt is done. Yeah!! (I just need to wash it and then it will be ready to go to its future home).  I will take a picture - just as soon Jesse decides to give up his spot on the quilt :)

And I will be back later with either another card or perhaps some jewelry pictures.

Until later tonight,

Katie

An Aviary Birthday Card

Hello again,

On Friday August 19th my "baby brother" turned 28! And yesterday we went up to Orangeville for a birthday party/BBQ. It is a 3 hour drive and was Jesse's longest car ride since we brought him home at the end of June 2010.

Here are 2  pictures from the car ride home from the breeders'. He was so tiny back then and was only 8 weeks old. Oh, and when we first saw the puppies - he was even smaller (he was 5 weeks when we went to see him for the first time). I will share some of the "baby" pictures and pictures of his siblings in a few days.

In this picture - we stopped at the McDonald's in Listowel and I took the picture before taking him out of the car.

This picture was taken just before he climbed up on my lap and fell asleep. It was almost like if he was asking if he could get on my lap - and with those eyes who could say no ?!?

And here is the birthday card. I chose a simple card for my brother and this one was especially easy to make. I love that the punches used to create the circles make this card come together very quickly.

Recipe for this card

Stamps - Aviary,  Fabulous Phrases
Card Stock - Pacific Point, Real Red, Whisper White
DSP - Brights Paper Stack (Real Red)
Accessories - Scallop Circle Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, 1 3/8" Circle Punch, Large Oval Punch, Rhinestones, pop dots.

I hope that you like the card and enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Gotta love the early puppy pictures.

That's all for now. Thanks for visiting again.

Another Circle Circus Card...

Good Morning,

I have another card made using the Circle Circus stamp set. In my last post, I talked about making your own DSP and this card is one example of that. Half the fun in making DSP is stamping over images (in different stamps and colours).

Here is the card.

I used two different stamps (and ink colours) to create this DSP.  I stamped the green circles first, and then the purple circles on a 2 1/2' x 5" piece of white card stock. There are actually 2 pieces of white card stock and the ribbon hides the seam.

I used the "Happy Birthday" stamp from Swirls and Curls Verses for the sentiment, but this card could easily be a Thank you card.

Recipe for this card:

Card stock - Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White
Ink - Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories - Concord Crush 1/2" Poly Striped Ribbon
Stamps - Circle Circus, Swirls and Curls Verses

Hope that you like this card.

Thanks for stoping by.

More card samples

Happy Friday everyone!

I have yet another card picture for you. This one uses the stamp set "Circle Circus". And I have to say that I LOVE the versatility of this particular stamp set. Only draw back is that it is currently only available in wood mount (but if you ever want to learn how to convert wood mounted stamps into cling let me know). What i LOVE about this set is that it can be used for basically anything. I have seen people use it for topiary trees, purses, background paper - you name it and it probably has been done. I believe that the stamp set has 10 stamps (off the top of my head) and I usually use it to make my very own DSP (designer series paper) - and there is no right or wrong way to make DSP.

For this card, I used one of the smaller circle stamps, cut them out as close to the edge of the stamp that I could and then adhered them to a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" card. Oh, and did you know that this size card fits perfectly inside the same envelop as the 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card - which means no extra postage or having to find special envelopes.

Check it out!

This card could easily be made into a (more traditional) 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card, and could be made even easier using a 1" circle punch, but I felt that the circles fit better without the small "border" around them.

Recipe for this card

Card stock - Whisper White, Island Indigo (one of the new in colours - love it!!)
Ink - Island Indigo, Calypso Coral and Kiwi Kiss (either the ink pads or the markers)
Accessories - Adhesive, pop dots (if you wanted to pop the centre circle)

See I told you that it was a simple card. This card could be made with almost any colour combination and the best part is that if you are a new stamper - it wouldn't cost too much to start out...rough estimate about $75 which would include the stamp set, a package of the in colour markers, the in colour card stock (assorted), and whisper white card stock (but that is because the very versatile stamp set for wood mount is $36.95 ). And you could easily make 30 + cards.

And I can show you how!! If you are interested in learning how to make this (or any card that you see here) let me know. We can schedule a workshop (where you can earn FREE Stampin' Up! product), or create a card class or club for yourself and some friends.

If you want more information, either leave a comment here or send an email (katie.doggart.stampin.up@gmail.com)

More cards tomorrow (made with Circle Circus) and some homemade DSP.

Until then. Happy crafting!

Butterflies in Blue - Update

Good evening,

So I am ALMOST done making the Butterflies in Blue quilt. All that is left to be done is hand sewing the binding to the back of the quilt. I have to say - I really liked how this quilt turned out, but I have learned some lessons along the way. Like how it is harder to match up the borders than it would be to match up corners. I also learned that I think that I prefer a solid back (no piecing) and I am not sure that I like quilting large quilts - but of course this has to be done.

Once I get the binding sewn on I will take a picture before sending it off to its owner. :)

On a different note, I am feeling a wee bit tapped, creatively speaking. Not sure that I am ready to start working on another quilt yet, nor do I really want to make very many cards (except for workshops or card classes), but hey, I figure that I have enough card samples to keep this blog busy for the next little while. Who knows, maybe I will make some jewellery!?!

Anyways, I am off to work on my resume. Have a great night and happy crafting.

Next Up....Just Believe Thank You

Good Morning,

So next up I have a Thank You card made using the "Just Believe" stamp set. It is a very simple card, only a couple of layers.

The Recipe to make this card:

Stamp Set: Just Believe
Paper: Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Brights DSP Paper Stack (Tempting Turquoise)
Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Soft Suede

The "Just Believe"  stamp set has a couple of different sentiments including "Just for You, Thank You, and Friends". And they would all fit inside the rectangle.

I hope that you like this card. If you feel so inclined, feel free to make a comment.

Until later this evening,

Katie

And the winners are...

Hello again,

So I have one last quick post tonight before I head off to bed - and it is to announce the winners from the draw that I head at the Entrepreneur Fair at work. I had a lot of people put in ballots, which means that there are some potential new people interested in Stampin' Up! and the card making that I do.

I had one of my fellow Stampin' Up! demonstrators draw the names (and rest assured it was a fair draw because she did not enter the draw).

Drum roll please....and the winners are:
1.    Yvonne Loucks
2.    Stacey Twist
3.    Rowina Rocha (will need to check the email/global directory at work tomorrow as this name was hard to read).

The draw was for 1 of 3 things....A cling mount stamp set, and the winner's choice of 1 of 2 card classes - either the Christmas Poinsettia Class or the Fabulous Florets Thank You card class.

Seeing as Yvonne was the first name drawn, I will let her choose first. And if everyone prefers the card classes then that's OK too.

There should be a couple of excited people at work tomorrow (seeing as both Yvonne and Stacey are in my department).

Congrats to all three!!

Now Jesse and I are off to bed. Good Night.

Entrepreneur Fair Card Samples #1

Good evening,

As I mentioned in my last post, I am going to start posting some of the card samples that I had on display at work today.

I think that I will start with one of the "Tiny Teacup" card samples. I purposely left the sentiment off most of the cards, simply to show just how versatile some of the stamp sets could be.

Supplies needed to make this card:

Stamps: Tiny Tea Cup
Paper: Whisper White, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Marina Mist, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Big Shot, Swiss Dots Embossing Folder, Marina Mist 5/8" Taffeta Ribbon, 1 3/4" Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8" Circle Punch.

I hope that you like the first card. More to come, I promise :)

Katie

It's been a while...

Hello all!!

So it has been a couple of weeks since I last posted here. I have been quite busy with preparing for the Entrepreneur Fair that took place today at my place of employment. I had many cards made (actually, too many to display all of them because of the size of the table)...but overall it was a very good afternoon. I made a lot of contacts, gave out a lot of business cards, and hopefully it will lead to some interest in some of the card classes as well as workshops.

I have also been working on the "Butterflies in Blue" quilt....it is nearing completion. All I have left to do is one row of quilting and then to make and attach the binding to the quilt front (by machine) and quilt back (by hand). The quilt has turned out very well so far. (I really LOVE the blueberry themed fabric that inspired all of the other fabric selections). I really hope that the intended recipient likes it as well.

Well, that's all for now, but I will be back later tonight to showcase some of the cards that were on display today at the Entrepreneur Fair (and eventually some of the cards that were not on display as I had too many).

Oh, and if you have come here from the blog address on the business card that was picked up today - Welcome! Please feel free to check out past blog entries and make comments. I always love to see them. :)

Until later tonight,

Katie

Fabulous Florets Poinsettia

Happy Tuesday!

While trying to get some inspiration for cards to make using the Fabulous Florets stamp set, I stumbled upon a Christmas card. I know that it may seem early to be making Christmas cards, but if you start early enough then you don't have to be scrambling to finish your cards in December.

The card that inspired mine can be seen here. I love that the poinsettia petals were made using the Two Step Bird Punch. It makes them so simple to cut out and they are always the exact same shape.

Here is my card.

I used the Red Glitter Paper for the flower, and stamped the leave image from Fabulous Florets. The trick to assembling the flower is a small piece of card stock (I used a 1/2" circle) in behind the petals. Oh, and I used tombo glue instead of double sided tape or sticky strip as it allows for a bit of movement before it sets.

Recipe for the Card:

4 1/4" x 5 1/2" Whisper White Card Base
4 3/8" x 2 7/8" Pear Pizzaz
4 1/4" x 2 3/4" Whisper White
Fabulous Florets Stamp Set
Tombo Multi Purpose Adhesive
Red Glimmer Paper
Pearls
Red and White Ribbon

Tomorrow I will have some more Fabulous Florets cards that are great for any occasion.

See you later :)

Tiny Teacup Samples

Hello again,

I have gotten some pictures taken of the card samples that I made with the "Tiny Teacup" stamp. This one is a single stamp set - part of the "A la carte" stamps that Stampin' Up! makes.

Here are the four samples (although the last one uses a stamp from the set "Morning Cup").

This one is a 3D item made with the Scallop Envelope Die and the BigShot. It will fit 3 tea bags.

Card #1 made with Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade.

Card #2 with Chocolate Chip and Marina Mist.

Card #3 - This one uses the teacup from "Morning Cup" - Riding Hood Red, Pear Pizzazz, Daffodil Delight and Baja Breeze.

Well, that's all for tonight. I will be back tomorrow to showcase some cards made with the Aviary stamp set.

Thanks for visiting! Hope to see you again soon.

Been A Busy Bee

Happy Monday,

Today is the last day of the long weekend (August first is a Civic Holiday here in Canada), and I have been quite busy this weekend. I have been making A LOT of card samples to showcase at the entrepreneur fair that is taking place at my work. So many samples that it would make for a VERY long post if I included them all in one post.

I really wanted to showcase the simplicity of card making, and that anyone can do it. :)

A lot of the cards can be used for many different occasions...thank you cards, birthday cards etc....

I hope that the folks at work like them.

That's all for now, but I will be back later tonight with some pictures. The first stamp set that I will showcase is the "Tiny Teacup" single stamp.

Back soon,

Katie
